The workout was already hard, and then you have to feel that workout for the next few days. Soreness can be reduced and almost eliminated if treated and prevented in the right ways. Reducing soreness can allow your body to recover faster and reduce time spent below 100%.
1- Post-Workout Meal
A combination of both the right food timing within 30 minutes of your workout can reduce soreness significantly. You body needs protein in order to repair the muscles broken down during workouts. Recommended proteins could be chicken or turkey and for vegans peanut butter or protein powder.
Dehydration can be one of the more sever and damaging aspects of a workout to your body. During your workout, you should attempt to drink at least 20oz of water per hour. Water can replenish muscles and allow your body to have a faster turnaround between workouts.
3- Cool Down
With any workout, the warm up and cool down can help to prevent injuries and reduce stress in muscles. Increased blood flow can allow for a faster recovery time as well. Some ways to cool down quickly can be a slow walk or even a bike ride. Stretching can also help in the cool down process and help to decrease stress and tightness built up in muscle tissue.
